Les Racines
Le Rock and Roll ne se présente pas comme un mouvement musical cohérent. Ses racines sont diverses et nombreuses, mais toutes sont populaires : le rythme and blues, la musique des afro-américains du Sud des États-unis, le country and western, joué essentiellement par les Blancs, le jazz, qui lui apporte le rythme, le folk song et le blues. Au début, le rock and roll était caractérisé par le fait que la basse et la batterie ne faisaient qu’accompagner la musique, presque comme dans le jazz ou le blues.

Puis un accompagnement dans les basses du style boogie-woogie lui donne une certaine cohérence. Le chanteur est le plus souvent accompagné par un piano et des guitares. Et fort de cette musique, les premiers danseurs se firent un devoir de “swinguer” sur ce nouveau rythme. Depuis ses débuts, le rock est une danse rapide et sportive et presque toutes les écoles de danse proposent des stages de rock, le plus souvent du “rock au sol” (le plus couramment dansé de nos jours). Mais chacun veut aller plus loin, et les “teenagers” des années 50 se lancent à corps perdu dans ce qu’ils surnommeront dans ces années là, le “Rock Acrobatique”.

Mais à l’époque des “fifties” les endroits où l’on enseigne le rock acrobatique, sont beaucoup plus rares, surtout en France. C’est alors que quelques “audacieux” de l’après guerre, vont se spécialiser et ouvrir cette discipline à un plus grand nombre. Des écoles de danse plus ou moins prestigieuses ouvrent leurs portes à ces “fous du rock” parmi elles : Boirivent, Flattot, Emmanuelides et probablement la plus importante : “l’école de danse David” qui fera office de pionniers plus tard, à tous les niveaux.

Maintenant tout cela est très codifié et la méthode pour apprendre le Rock est parfaitement bien rodée. Quelques cours vous suffiront pour obtenir les bases (une vingtaine de cours collectifs, la moitié en cours particuliers); non pas, bien sur pour être champion du monde, mais pour vous débrouiller, alors qu’un cycle d’une saison complète, achèvera de parfaire vos connaissances. Les confirmés et les avancés resteront plus longtemps, car il y a de nombreux élèves qui continuent des années durant, afin de devenir des danseurs/ses de très très bon niveau.

@ Jim I know what your mean. In todays economy its difficult to find a job that pays good enough to live on and is stable . I have found that if you just work hard and are consistent you can succeed. Look at the poster of this page , they are oviously a hard worker and have just been consistent over time and are now enjoying at least what would appear as somewhat of a success. I would encourage everyone to just keep hustling and moving forward.
